Dentures for Arlington and Jacksonville Patients
Dentures, sometimes called false teeth, are actually prosthetic devices made to replace your missing teeth. Both full and partial dentures are custom made in a state-of-the-art dental laboratory from impressions taken of your mouth by Arlington Dental Center.
Full Dentures:
Full Dentures fall into two categories: “Conventional” or “Immediate,” and can be either an upper or lower denture, or both. The upper denture is made to cover the roof of the mouth, while the lower denture allows room for your tongue.
Conventional Full Dentures – are placed in the mouth after the teeth have been pulled and the gums have been allowed to heal and return to their normal size. This healing process may take 8-12 weeks, during which time you will be without teeth.
Immediate Full Dentures – are placed in the mouth immediately after all the teeth have been pulled. To insure proper fit and ultimate comfort, our dentists will have already taken critical measurements and made models of your jaw during a prior visit. Although “Immediate” dentures allow you to have teeth right away, they will need to be relined several months later.
Partial Dentures:
Partial dentures are removable and typically consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base and framework that holds the denture in place within the mouth. Partial dentures can be used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
Things to Know About Dentures:
- New dentures may feel uncomfortable for the first few weeks.
- It may take some practice to get use to eating and speaking with dentures.
- If you experience irritation or soreness, see your dentist.
- Your denture may need adjusting until it feels right in the mouth.
- At a minimum, you should see your Arlington Dental Center dentist annually for a denture checkup.
